Facelift surgery (rhytidectomy)
is a procedure, which rejuvenates the skin of men and women in order
to reverse the visible effects of aging, gravity, overexposure to
the sun, and stress. Facelift surgery involves the tightening of
underlying tissues, the removal of excess skin and fat, and the
graceful redraping of the facial skin, to achieve a younger and
more refreshed look.
Most people decide to have facelift surgery to address the signs
of aging. As muscles weaken, the skin and underlying tissues loosen
and begin to sag. This causes deposits of fat to slide downward
and settle in different areas of the face. Even though a facelift
does not stop the aging process, it can “turn back the clock”
and improve overall facial contours.
A facelift is often times performed in combination with a forehead
lift (brow lift), neck lift, and eyelid
surgery (blepharoplasty). In addition other procedures,
such as nose reshaping (rhinoplasty), lip
augmentation, chin implant or cheek
implant surgery, are commonly performed at the same time
to further define facial features.
When considering a facelift procedure it is important to consult
with an experienced
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon who specializes in
facial cosmetic surgery. It is important to discuss your needs and
goals extensively with your facelift surgeon in order to achieve
your desired results. During the consultation your facelift surgeon
will thoroughly examine your facial structure and features to determine
which results realistically can be achieved.
