mainly performed to get rid of the appearance of thin and
aging lips by injecting “fillers”, such as collagen
or fat, to enhance their fullness and regain shape.
A lip augmentation is most often treated as an outpatient
procedure and undertaken in the doctor’s surgical
office (unless receiving another procedure such as a face
lift which can take place in a hospital, in which case
the injection will be administered on-site) and can take
anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour. With collagen injections,
anesthesia is generally not needed, but with fat injections,
a local anesthetic may be applied. The duration of most
lip augmentation procedures ranges from a few months to
approximately one year.
